Sarah Irving is a director of Olive Co-operative in Manchester, working on tasks from press relations to running stalls. As well as selling fairly traded Palestinian produce and running tours to Palestine and Israel, Olive Co-op is also involved in promoting dialogue and understanding.
During International Women’s Week 2006 we organised a live link-up between citizens in Manchester and women from the embroidery co-operative at Deheishe Refugee Camp near Bethlehem. We’re part of the steering committee for the Manchester Festival of Palestinian Literature, which takes place in October 2006, and members of Olive are active in promoting a just peace in many different communities.
Sarah is also a freelance writer and publicity adviser, specialising in helping ethical businesses and not-for-profit organisations with their press and marketing. Her work can be found at www.freelancefusion.com/uk/sarahirving. She is also a researcher for the ethical consumerism and corporate responsibility websites Corporate Critic and Ethiscore (www.corporatecritic.org and www.ethiscore.org), and a sometime writer and editor at Ethical Consumer magazine.
